When should wisdom teeth come out?
Wisdom teeth are the last molars to erupt, usually in your late teens or twenties. They often lack space, grow at an angle or stay trapped in the bone. Removal is recommended when they cause pain, infection, decay, damage to neighboring teeth or crowding.
- Pain or swelling at the back of the mouth
- Repeated gum infections around a partially erupted tooth
- Decay you cannot clean properly
- Pressure or damage to the tooth next to it
The procedure
- X-ray and exam. We confirm the position of each tooth and plan the extraction.
- Anesthesia. Local anesthesia, with sedation available when needed.
- Removal. Gentle extraction, with stitches when required.
- Aftercare. Written instructions and prescriptions you can fill a few steps away.
Recovery tips
- Rest the first day and keep your head elevated
- Use ice for the first 24 hours to control swelling
- Eat soft foods and avoid straws for several days
- Take prescribed medication as directed
