Where is Los Algodones?
Los Algodones (officially Vicente Guerrero) is a small town in the state of Baja California, Mexico, sitting right on the border where California, Arizona and Mexico meet. It is about 7 miles west of Yuma, Arizona, and is often called “Molar City” because of the hundreds of dental clinics concentrated within a few walkable blocks of the border.
Getting there
Flying in
Yuma International Airport (YUM) is the closest airport, with connections through Phoenix and Dallas. Many patients fly into Phoenix (PHX) or San Diego (SAN) and rent a car for the scenic drive along Interstate 8.
Driving in
Take Interstate 8 to the Winterhaven / Andrade exit (California State Route 186) and follow signs to the Andrade port of entry. The parking lot is directly next to the pedestrian crossing.
RV & winter visitors
Thousands of snowbirds spend the winter in the Yuma area. If you are staying in an RV park in Yuma or Winterhaven, the clinic is a short drive and walk away, perfect for multi-day treatment.
Crossing the border
Entering Mexico on foot is quick. Returning to the U.S., you’ll pass through U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Andrade. Lines are longer in winter and around midday; bring water and sun protection. Always check current port hours before your trip, as they are shorter than at larger crossings.
Tip: book your first appointment for the morning. You’ll cross before the lines build and finish while the border is still quiet.
