The short answer
Choose zirconia for strength: back teeth, bridges and patients who grind. Choose E.max for maximum translucency on front teeth, especially next to porcelain veneers. Many smiles use both.

What is a zirconia crown?
Zirconia is a metal-free ceramic known for exceptional strength and fracture resistance. Monolithic zirconia is milled from a single block, which makes it extremely durable, while layered zirconia adds porcelain on the surface for extra natural color. It is our most popular dental crown in Los Algodones.
What is an E.max crown?
E.max is lithium disilicate, a glass-ceramic with lifelike translucency. It reflects light much like natural enamel, which is why it is a favorite for front teeth and for cases that combine crowns with veneers.
Which one should you choose?
- Molars and premolars: zirconia, for chewing strength
- Front teeth: E.max, or layered zirconia for heavy biters
- After a root canal: zirconia on back teeth; see our root canal page
- If you grind: zirconia plus a night guard
Cost in Los Algodones
